September 2008
Dear Colleagues,
It’s a bit hard to believe that summer is becoming a memory. In Park City this morning, it was 38’ when I woke up. We have pulled the blankets out of the closet and the leaves are beginning to turn. Change is in the air.
Change can probably best describe the past three months of ASTDN’s history. In May, we had a wonderful Annual Meeting in beautiful Orlando and we changed leadership. Shirley Orr became Past President after leading our organization through a great year of success and acclaim. In June, we learned that our three year funding relationship with CDC would change dramatically as we were not funded for continuing projects. July and August brought a flurry of activity as we worked to complete the several projects of the current Cooperative Agreement with great success, thanks to the leadership of our Project Manager, Mary Pat Couig.
September brings a new change for ASTDN. An Executive Director! Michelle Cravetz has accepted the ED position effective September 1, 2009. Michelle brings 34 years of public health nursing experience, leadership and enthusiasm to the job. Michelle has four main goals to accomplish –
Networking and relationship building
Resource and infrastructure development
Oversee member services
Implement organizational initiatives
We are so excited to have her on board. Please join me in congratulating Michelle on accepting this change and new adventure. Michelle can be reached at michelle.cravetz@astdn.org
Change keeps us on our toes, keeps wind in our sails and gives the politicos on TV something to talk about. In the ASTDN world, change has been scary, it has been sudden and it will be exciting for our future.
Best regards
Teresa Garrett
